My kids are totally obsessed with this crazy, whacked out, bizarre, but totally awesome television show… and I have to admit… I’m also kind of obsessed with it too! It’s so funny I love it. It’s jam packed with tons of humor for kids and adults, amazing characters and lot of adventures.
As a laugh, one day I decided to try and crochet my son a Finn inspired hat. I have to say, it turned out pretty great! I actually had several students at my child’s school ask me where he got the hat and I’ve even had a few order requests. Now my eldest son says he wants to be Finn for hallowe’en next year and my youngest wants to be Jake the Dog. I think I should get to work on creating a Jake the Dog hat for my baby!
This hat is actually very quick and easy to make. A skilled crocheter could whip this up in a about an hour, but it’s great for beginners too because it uses several different techniques in a simple manner. The hat is worked in joining rounds and then switches to a back and forth pattern and then switches back to joining rounds with a colour change at the bottom. The ears are worked up in continuous rounds and then in front loops only for the last round. Special stitches include dc2tog, changing yarn colour and front loop single crochet. I use a thick worsted weight yarn, a large K/10.5 – 6.50mm hook, a double crochet and a single crochet stitch for this pattern. It’s simple but cute!
This pattern is for a child approx 4-12 years old. Due to the large stitches, this hat will stretch and fit a head approx 18″ – 21″.

With the extreme cold weather upon us I decided to make some super warm toques and cowls. This pattern works up really quick using super bulky wool yarn, and is extremely warm.
With Christmas upon us, I wanted to make something for my boys to wear that was a little festive. The other day, I was watching them play so nicely with each other, they were pretending to be Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman… and that gave me an idea!! I decided to make them a reindeer hat (and a snowman hat too. The snowman hat pattern will be posted soon) complete with red nose! This is an easy double crochet hat that will fit a child between the age of 4-12.
My 4 year old son is really into yarn and has been for years. He loves playing with all the soft and colourful left over scraps of yarn I have. One day, last year, he was going through my stash (I have a crazy stash) and rooting around the bottom, he came across a skein of Bernat Pipsqueak and fell in love with it. He carried that skein around with him everywhere and one night, I’ve even caught him trying to go to sleep with it. I asked him if I could make him a “blankie” with it and he said no because he already has a blankie, he wanted a hat instead! I came across this pattern for a Fuzzy Polar Bear Hat and one night when he was sleeping I crocheted it for him. The next morning I gave it to my son and he was so happy he kept rubbing it on his cheek saying “It’s so soft. Thank you Mummy. I love you!” He loves his polar bear hat and wears it everywhere. He also loves telling strangers who comment on the hat how soft it is and that it was made just for him. A link to the pattern can be found
