When I was learning how to crochet I had a hard time reading patterns. I had to write out the full words and rewrite, in details any and all special stitches required, so here is a quick tutorial on how to crochet 2 together. In patterns you will see …2tog. It could be sc2tog, hdc2tog, dc2tog or even tr2tog, this tutorial will tell you how to crochet them. The same rules apply to these 4 types of crochet stitches: sc, hdc, dc and tr.
Here is how to do a single crochet 2 together or sc2tog
insert hook into the specified space as called for in your pattern. Yarn over and pull up a loop. There should be 2 loops on your hook.
insert hook into the next space,
yarn over and pull up another loop. There should now be 3 loops on your hook.
Now, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops.
Ta-da! That’s how you sc2tog.
hdc2tog
yarn over and insert hook into next stitch as called for in your pattern; yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through all 5 loops.
dc2tog
yarn over and insert hook into next stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops left on your hook). Now yarn over again and insert hook into the next stitch and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (3 loops left on your hook), now yarn over and pull through all 3 loops.
tr2tog
yarn over twice and insert hook into next stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (3 loops left on your hook), yarn over and pull through 2 more loops (2 loops left on your hook). Now yarn over twice and insert hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (5 loops on your hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 more (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 3 loops.
There you have it. The same method applies to hdc2tog, dc2tog and tr2tog. The only thing you modify is how many times you yarn over and how many loops you need to pull through. I hope this helps you on your crochet journey.
